The Beginning And Birth Of The SleepBelt

It's not news, but let's face it.  Being a new mom is hard.

Incredibly rewarding, but hard.

SleepBelt was born out of the need and desire to make things easier and safer as a new mom.  If you've browsed our site, you know our story - My then 2-week old daughter was napping on my chest, when I took my hands off of her she startled and fell.  Wraps were complicated in the early days (usually just a little too tight or loose, and the knot was always in the wrong spot), carriers were rough on the skin and cumbersome, and slings didn't feel right for skin-to-skin when relaxing at home.  Babywearing shirts weren't right for me, because I wanted to be able to take it off quickly and pass it to my husband for his bonding time, and I could never get her out of any of the above without waking her.  I approached my sister to help me bring this product to life... Simple and effective - that was the goal, and I think we accomplished it.

You know what else is hard but incredibly rewarding?

Bringing a baby product you are passionate about to market.

I was fortunate to have an amazing, savvy business partner in my sister, and the best cheerleader at home (thanks husband!).  We had instant support from the healthcare community - La Leche League International, Nurses, Midwives, Doulas, Sleep Experts, Lactation Consultants, and Babywearing Educators (just to name a few) offered encouragement right off the bat.  The world of baby products had been lacking something like SleepBelt, and we were excited to spread the word and share our product with new moms.  I may be a little late to the blogging game, but am excited to grow our community through weekly posts!  We'll hear from guest experts, and will have a regular entry from a dad's point of view.  Every parent has a great idea to make things easier at home with a baby; we're excited to share our journey with you... But only once a week.  Because being the mom of a toddler and a baby and running a business is hard (but rewarding!), and work and children don't manage themselves... except at nap time ;)

Happy Snuggling,
